Spire Drop in / Drop out Season 2: Pitch Black Inferno; Introduction

A charred ruin is all that remains of the old church to Our Glorious Lady in the Blue Docks. News travelled quickly of a fiery woman and her Vigilites who vanquished a full regiment of aelfir Paladins, including Captain Bright-Spires, with the aid of ordinary angry folk. The bodies of local drow, Vigilites and Paladins were found inside, in the biggest blow to the Solar Pantheon forces since occupation. Drow in the Works had an extra drink that night, while full parties were held in Derelictus, where the grip of the aelfir was its weakest. Finally, proof that the drow could be strong enough to face down Paladins had been provided, with Lekole’s fiery blessing.

Vyra, the leader of the Vigilite cell, became renowned as a reborn hallow of Lekole and shrines to her defiance started to appear in dark alleys and small home cupboards. But that didn’t mean that Spire became an easier place to live for the drow. District border crossings remained in place, and with the Solar Pantheon forces weakened, the Council moved to further bolster the City Guard, providing a sweeping set of new arrest and investigation laws, allowing guards to hold “suspicious” drow almost indefinitely, until an aelfir investigator from the Hive had deemed them safe.

Lord Errin Jubilant-The-Devoted, a member of the Spire Council, has been particularly vocal about the perceived drop in aelfir safety, and has already secured a motion to remove the Solar Pantheon from investigations and divert funds into a new elite force chaired by him. Offices of the new Drow Containment Force (DCF) have started appearing in all districts outside of Amaranth (where the Black Guard were still allowed full jurisdiction). Not much is known about the main aims or recruiting practices of the DCF, but military-level weapons previously reserved for the army and Paladins have been seen in deliveries to the offices.

It is not clear where the Vyskant cult fits into this new picture, and they have not been heard from since they brought the Ministers and Vigilites together to smash a main Paladin force. There are rumours on the streets of some friends or family members disappearing and coming back speaking of “the cave”, but nothing else. Given that Vyra learnt that their aim is to infect as many people as possible with their Vys virus, it will be important to find their centre of operations.

This is the context that the joint Ministry/Vigilite cell finds themselves in - with Vyra and her fiery forces working alongside the shadowy agents of the Ministry, they will need to stop the cult and continue undermining aelfir leadership.

In season 2 of my Spire campaign, players play the roles of ministers, agents of the shadowy drow goddess Lombre, who are part of a new cell merged with fiery Vigilites, members of a usually non-aligned cult. Missions will be won or lost by best using the fire or shadow that the agents and their connections can wield.

Will you be able to root out the deadly Vyskant following? Will you be able to break the back of the DCF and win back some freedoms? Or will you be crushed under the ever heavier boot of aelfir occupying rule?

May our Hidden Mistress lead us to victory!
