I think it’s not only a philosophical question, but also a scientific one:
The thing is there is not a single case of change where it is reversible. Sure you can reheat your sandwich to room temperature, and you could even recreate all the ingredients from what’s left after eating (the gases you breath out, your excrements, what’s stored in your body, and so on) even if it might be slightly complicated…
But the energy you need to cool your sandwich or the energy you gain from the eating it… is partially lost. You increased entropy. You couldn’t “reverse” the change infinitely often, since in every iteration something changes the system.
And I think it is the same with a change in location, you change it twice instead of once and reversing it. There will be people remembering the change, people will influence the system in a different way than by going to the old location. It’s not like the state is like before after the (two) change(s). Something will be left back from it.
I am not sure if I am qualified for an absolute answer, but I would agree with @Mexikorn that all changes are permanent and can only be followed up with more permanent changes, which might get the system back to a state, which is very similar to the initial one.
I will be DM ing the finale to Ratterdam at T4!!
Anyone who has played at my table before may level their characters up just for this occasion if you don’t have the downtime days!
Also I will post rewards for last session later!
that just means it depends on what you observe the change to:
systemwide change ← I tend to agree
point of reference (e.g.: where the session is held) definitly can be temporary and be reveresed
so imho the smaller the point/area of observation the more likely a change can be completely reversed even if the bigger picture stays affected
Surely true! And since the whole system is not visible to us anyway, it is fair to assume a single point (the games location) to be just a scalar variable, which can indeed change back to its original VALUE ()!
I would argue nothing is permanent, and everything is constantly changing. Speaking in the present tense is always incorrect, because in the second you finish saying something, it will have been in the past. The verb “to be” is an illusion, nothing ever is, it always was or will be.
When you make your sandwich, the way it tastes will change every moment that it sits uneaten, though the changes might be too small for us to notice. But just because it’s gradual and hasn’t reached the point where it’s soggy and gross doesn’t mean the change wasn’t always there.
But will playing at Requisite feel the same after having played at a different location? Especially if that location is potentially better? Reversing the change of location doesn’t cancel out the memory of it happening.
(note: I do not know the new location, and I’m happy with Requisite, I just think once you find something awesome, going back to something that you feel doesn’t compare makes the “original” state worse).
I’d suggest to continue your philosophical discussion about the meaning onf change in a new topic, as this one should only be used for scheduling the VALUE session on friday
Indeed. However, I’ve had most unwelcome visitors from Wuhan province over the weekend - the kind not possessing any notion of respect for intimate personal space. I am afraid the likelihood of them outstaying their welcome until at least this coming Friday is considerable. Should this approximation of mine prove to be inaccurate, the silver raven shall not fail to answer this call to glory, naturally.
I joined @blueblaze 's Stormwreck Isle adventure the week before last, so in case this would be continued I’d join there, but I’m happy about a spot on any table.
Hi, newbie here. Want to jump in DnD after spamming Baldur’s Gate 3 for the longest time and stumbled upon V.A.L.U.E. Can anyone help me with the following questions:
Any new campaigns/one shots starting this Friday?
How should I prepare before the game? (i.e character, equipment, apps)
We always have new one-shots for people to jump in on - just prep a level one character using the rules in the link at the top of this thread; no need for any specific apps etc - lots of folk use D&D Beyond, lots of folk use paper in case of poor reception, whatever you prefer.
