Just because you can “pick a role” doesn’t mean that you are forced into doing that bc the system can’t do it differently and nobody ever said it’s purely a narrative focused system.
All I was trying to communucate is that it is a good experience to try and create these archetypes in the system and a better one than I’ve had in other systems. Because you can build synergies between the different cards/abilities and these “roles” feel rewarding to play.
If you’ don’t want to build a char like that, do that the options are there.
at least from my humble experience it is “another burger” just as D&D, PF, or 13th Age
… a nice looking burger, and for some a really awesome burger but it is still a burger, and it won’t be e.g. ice cream
e.g. the points generated by the PbtA-style rolls are “only” used to fuel powers/spells etc.
(that was def. a design choice and it is not inherently bad … but this makes it “another burger”)
