Weekly games!

I was actually thinking about what’ll happen when we got another 10 players or so. And when some just show up without posting on the board. Then the scheduling will become a good deal of work.
But you’re right. Having a few mini games as back up can’t hurt. Taking a pile of RPG books off the shelf

It is good to see the very same spirit in this group I encountered in France… I totally agree with the idea that having a short scenario and a pack of pre-print characters is a very good idea, just in case. I’ll do it also then.

And the discussions well answered my question : clearly, having a 8 players table is not an ideal configuration… a least, for me  I am more of the 4/5 player type…

So, it’s that time of the week again: What will we be doing this thursday?

I thought there would be some New Fire?
Apart from that, I dunno…

i will run some New Fire for either those who skipped/missed the first one
or some other story

I believe the plan is for more New Fire (well, Almost New) plus Dungeon World, right?

The following week, it’ll be part deux of Simon’s Cops game, and I can either run a somewhat offbeat take on Grimm, kick off that old school business, or my favorite: the Unnanounced Surprise RPG.

In any case, I also don’t think we need to worry too much about having enough games and DMs on hand. If anything, we’ll have to figure out how to make time for everyone who wants to run something, and also find a way to let everyone play all the games they’d like. Reruns probably aren’t a long-term solution; it can be fun to run the same scenario for multiple groups every once in a blue moon just to see how differently they evolve, but that sort of thing can get old fast.

Also, I borrowed a copy of the new Star Wars RPG this week-end.
I need to actually read the rules and I am not too enthusiastic about it… But I will probably run a one shot for whoever is curious and wanting to try it out…

In games, where the player can mess a lot with the plot and even the setting/background - I think it might be less of a problem.

Well I will see how this will turn out :nerd:
(if all else falls I will run some other New Fire One-Shot)

Star Wars? Pfft. I’m not in the slightest bit interested.

(HOLY SHIT YES, PUT MY NAME DOWN  )

I’m in

plus …
I have a Star Wars idea too that I want to dm :smiling_imp:
(maybe I will run it in SAGA, or Westend Games d6; the unique dice in the new Edge of the Empire kinda put me off)

and I want to run a Yggdrassil One Shot

and some japanese RPGs

(when I have enough time to make premade characters)

I dunno. Personally I like running a scenario twice (have only done it two times before though, neither of which was in this group however). It means less prep work, and more familiarity with the scenario.
Although of course that kick you get from jumping into the cold water of running a new scenario for the first time, no knowing for sure how it’s gonna turn out - that’s also awesome!
I figure we’ll be doing reruns as long as more player interest exists for any given game than can be catered to in one go.

@ Star Wars: never actually played any SW rpg before, believe it or not…
I hear they are best when the group is either “all jedi” or “no jedi”. Must be because of the perceived power imbalance, i reckon?

… also, what “unique dice”? Consider me intrigued…

Either way, here’s looking forward to Dungeon World this week!

See what I mean? We’re practically drowning in things people want to run.

Thumbs up for WEG!

The game comes with (an inadequate number of) custom dice marked with Star Warsy symbols to handle different aspects of the game. This is done entirely for gameplay reasons.

Actually, the results aren’t half bad. So far, this latest version looks like the best one since the original.

If there is some space available, I’ll be happy to play Dungeon World… Let me know.

Edge’s Star Wars is a remarquably beautyful product, but the new dice system is… hum… peculiar. Not bad, it takes like 10 minutes to master it and then, it runs good. The difficulty comes from the interpretation of the result : “you manage to do this, but with a disadvantage, you loose, but brilliantly…”… Sometimes, the DM with whom I played had some stressful silences trying to explain the outcomes of situations

Nevertheless, I think the system, when mastered, is not bad. The real question is the relevance of those changes… I have no answer on this…

Yep, the custom dice is the part I am most doubtful about. I heard great things about the West End Game.

I am also quite tempted to use my X-Wing minis game and throw in some space battles… Dunno how well the two would mesh. Adding a whole new set of rules on top of this new role-playing rules might a headache… Although they both use a custom dice mexchanic… so they might be more similar on design than one would think…

The only problem comes from the high death rate in X-wings, I think… the lifetime of characters could be slightly reduced… But I guess mixing the two would be a really good idea.

Well, it really depends on how you organize things.
In recent editions of D&Finder, for example, a NPC’s CR is about on par with his level (at least if they have gear of a similar level than PCs).
Considering the size of PC group, the game designers consider a normal to be the players out-numbering level equivalent bad guys 4 or 5 to one.
If one were to keep this kind of odds, mortality rate should be very low…
And, of course, the PCs should be given the opportunityto act smart and prepare the fight or avoid it altogether…

I totally agree… And I think it would be of great fun to play the space battles using X-wings.

You have to worry of these potent individuals hogging the spotlight and showing up the rest of the party.

in WEG beginning characters (force / non-force) were kinda balanced,
but if you hand them XP, then things will get ugly very fast
(especially, if the character has a lightsaber and/or a teacher).
…but the Dark Side was by far more corrupting than the d20 games.

in d20 (revised) / SAGA Jedi seemed to be not that overpowered at first, but after playing a SAGA campaign for several years now, i can tell you:
they are!
SAGA does a little better job then the d20 (revised) version, since it gives non-force classes a lot of nice abilities - but still.

In the new Edge of the Empire / Age of Rebellion (Beta) - you cannot play full Jedi (yet), but only characters, who dabble with the Force.
(although there is a nice unofficial fan supplement pdf, with rules how to create full fledged force users)
Seems to be balanced at first glance - have to run at least a small campaign to see how it works out.
Fantasy Flight Games will release their Force & Destiny product in 2015, which will be a full Jedi-focused campaign setting.

and WEG it shall be :sunglasses:

I played it a lot during my teens.
It is really nice, but you have to balance alien species a lot.
(especially if you set your story during the New Republic era)

Plus I prefer the WEG Dark Side mechanic compared to the d20 games.
