In the value system you can choose to level up after each adventure. Additionally you get 10 downtime days that you can spend according to the rules, see above. (Think of them as meta gold)

Thank you all for a fun adventure in the first layer of hell.

Your team got the plans you were looking for and rescued a bunch of drow. After a night of looting the castle and playing with your spined devil “friend” you left the location before the drawn away troops returned.

You each gain:

  • 89GP
  • 2 Soul Coins

and one of the following magic items

hope you had as much fun as myself and “Is it Friday yet?”

Would the +1 armor be stackable to my current armor or would I have to choose? (I have a cast off plate - so would it be a cast-off +1?)

Thanks one again for accommodating me having to leave early. Really enjoyed the time I was able to stay

As far as I know not. It’s two different armors and you need to choose

That is correct.

Wait, it is NOT an enchantment? D: The +1 armor is a suit of armor that is standalone?

If so, then how much AC does the " +1 armor " give? Where does it state that? Is it light, medium or heavy armor?

No, there are no “enchantments” in that sense or upgrades to existing magic items. The +1 armor is a new suit of armor replacing your old one. When you choose it as your reward for that session, you can determine what kind of armor it shall be for you. That choice does not affect others, they can choose on their own what type of armor they want.

If your character needs heavy armor, you can choose plate armor +1. If your character needs light armor, you can go with studded leather armor +1, and if you want medium armor, you can go with a breastplate +1 (no stealth disadvantage) or a half plate (stealth disadvantage) +1.

Alright, so it IS an enchantment because your determined choice of armor magically becomes a +1 version of itself.

You can see how that sounds confusing, right? Nowhere is that explained, actually.

You don’t know that you magically conjure up the article of clothing that you want and it becomes a better version. That is literally hidden information.

I assumed you just slap the +1 onto an armor your already have or buy in town. That would be intuitive. Studded Leather (12+ max 2 Dex) Becomes: Studded Leather (12+ max 2 Dex +1)

That is what that sounds like. That would be intuitive. You take a nonmagical armor and make it a magical +1 article of protective gear.

But no. You apparently conjure up a new piece of armor. Bro. That is hella confusing, to be honest. Because, how is anyone meant to know this?

Would Katnyx or anyone else have known this? I did not expect that you gain an entirely new piece of armor.

Because if all this is true, you end up having 2 armors:

1 nonmagical (the one you already had)

1 magical (the one you created as +1)

While I and many others thought that you made something you already had better, thereby ending up with just 1 piece of armor. The one you had. But now it is better.

The write up says this was ‘armor found on the devils’ - so this is armor you are looting from slain devils, no? Was there something in the adventure where people got their armor enchanted that made that the first assumption?

If we weren’t playing VALUE we could be a lot more specific “the devils had +1 magical half plate” - whatever was appropriate for them - but then only those who could use half-plate would benefit and because VALUE has to set it up so everyone can theoretically get a reward we get Schrodingers armor which is ‘+1 armor’ and you get to decide what type.

So Katnyx could say they found ‘cast off plate +1’ and they looted a set of fiendish armor that was like their old one, but better! Or you could say you found ‘studded leather +1’ and you indeed have the equivalent to your existing gear, but better.

This all makes a lot sense and I can see how this would be the way an entire organization would set up its reward system this way.

But the funny part is that noone wore any armor whatsoever in the place we went to.

This by itself is no big deal obviously, because it does not have to make sense, we can just be happy with what we got. Sure.

But the sheer existence of a Schroedinger’s Armor was, as of yet, unknown to me.

Because then, when I loot a +1/+2/+3 armor, I essentially have another suit leftover to sell AND I do not have to buy a new armor that I want to enchant.

I assumed that was just too good, somehow. Or like a forbidden fruit.

But no. You get to double dip and gain gold pieces by picking “exactly what you want from the shop and now it is also magical”.

It seems odd and it actually is not explained anywhere. The sites where the magic items are described also of course do not know about how V.A.L.U.E. does it. (Because why would the information be there?)

So, no harm done. But it DOES require elaboration when it happens to someone for the first time.

Later on you will end up even with “leftover” magical armor. You can use that for trading though., maybe lower level characters are interested in that armor.

I’m not sure if I understand better or worse now but I’m gonna stick with my old armor xD thanks

Thinking about it post coffee though, I do think it makes sense to have it be new armor. I thought that was likely what it meant but wanted to ask in case I had an option of keeping “both”, my current and the +1. I’m just horrified of drowning or getting fried or something which is why I use the cast-off
