I am Bufo (29 f) and I am looking to start a new campaign starting in autumn. Looking for players who are interested in playing and also doing some world building together.
Details:
System: Fabula Ultima: relatively ruleslight and more role-play focused, inspired by JRPGS like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, etc.
Starting at level 5 and multi classing is required (system is built to support this)
Has meta currencies that allow you to shape the plot.
No stats for species, so you have a lot freedom in what you are/how you look
Setting: Custom setting, High Fantasy in Space. In terms of aesthetics think of Treasure Planet. Magic replaces much technological progress.
The Industrial Revolution never happened, magic replaced the steam engine and all following inventions from electricity to the transistor
Space travel is still hard though since magic strains against some major laws of physics such as light speed, relativity and the laws of motion. Teleportation of larger objects is very high level magic and long range teleportation is risky.
Long range-travel is done through going through planar paths called Warrens, since the rules are different there. Since the more secure orderly Warrens are controlled by states and governments, more chaotic Warrens are used by those who want to travel without being detected. (people told me travel through non-material space is very Warhammer 40k like but I don’t know it, so…)
There is archaeology and the world is post-post apocalyptic (the world ended, but has recovered but the aftershocks are still felt, and people are still looking for the past)
There will be politics (ranging from international political conflicts to more personal politics) and lots of lore (be warned). This includes history, religions, and some weird metaphysics (because I can’t resist it)
Important:
I would run this Thursday evening every two weeks. It is very unlikely that I will shift that date
It would start mid to late autumn.
This will have collective world building, so I want/expect you to world build together with me. I will have final say, but will try put your ideas in.
This is not first come first serve and I will test the system together with people first.
This game is supposed to be fun and comfy and I will not tolerate any form of racism, trans-, homo-, or any form of queerphobia.
If you are interested write here, DM me, or write me on Discord (BufoBufo, you can find me in the RPGVienna discord)
it does sound amazing, but I’m not sure I could swing thursdays (rather often I’m just too exhausted to really do anything after work), I hope you find a great and fun group, and for those interested: bufo is an amazing DM/GM/ST !
Hey - I currently have the fabula ultimate book on my shelf and have been looking for a chance to try it. Thursday evenings would work great for me and all your plans sound super interesting - would love to play in your campaign! I’m zimdar on discord if you want to chat there
I sadly don’t think I can manage on uneven weeked Thursdays anymore which really bumms me out:(. But I can only endorse Bufo’s campaigns, having previosly played in one and still currently playing a part in another. They are a wonderful time! If you like well thought-out world building, epic grande scale adventures and an all round great RPG experience along with a DM who cares about your story and your impact in their world I can only recommend you join this!! 10/10 DM!
Would just need to see if I am able to align this scheduling wise with other games. But I treasure planet is my favourite disney movie so I can not say no to an opportunity such as this.
Which means I will make time
Would need some assistance with the system as I don’t know it but I am quick on the uptake and motivated c:
But generally it is more streamlined than dnd. Your stats are dice you can roll and any skill check is a combination of the four stats (For example lifting a rock is MIGHT+MIGHT, and throwing a stone might be MIGHT+DEX) it is more dependent on the player and dm to offer how they want to solve things, which is also why narration and role-play is really important. Because opening a locked door might be MIGHT+WILLPOWER for breaking it by force or DEXTERITY+INSIGHT for lock picking.
There are no species/races, or rather it is purely cosmetic and can have roleplay potential but has no role in stats.
Multiclassing is important and you automatically start at level 5 with at least two different classes. The system is also built for this. There are no class requirements and you can easily combine things like Weaponmaster and Elementalist to get to things like Sword-Guy with Fire Sword like some anime protagonist.
There is a meta-currency, called Fabula Points a bit like Hope Points in Daggerheart. They can be used to reroll or add bonuses through your bonds and identity (by spending them and roleplaying how it affects you), activate some strong abilities or use them to shape the narrative (with ok from DM), from minor things like Space Poutine exists to plot relevant stuff. You actually get them by bad stuff happening to your character, like hitting 0 hit points and falling unconscious or a villain showing up, failing an important task. Kind of like in Masks, you learn from your failure.
Otherwise, the game is much more focused and role-play and thus requires more communication and buy-in from people than DnD.
Not entirely sure yet. It often depends on my players since I design my world and plots to be interacted with. Sometimes the players do not go to the plot or cut it short and sometimes they just make a minor plot point a major one.
But my other campaigns often lasted around 1,5 years plus/minus half a year. Depends also on what we want to focus on in terms of plot.
Hey guys, because of the heat and having no AC at work I am rather tired right now. I will try to write you all over the weekend. Mostly it will be talking about some stuff about the game, themes, play styles, some stuff about myself, etc.
We will also have a test session at some point. One for me to get to know you and your play style, you to get to know me and my GMing style, and to get to know the system.
Depending on how many people I have and time availability, there might also be two dates.
