Hi,
I’m Katherine, and when I started playing D&D I was very overwhelmed - by building my character, showing up to a space I didn’t know, alone. I have always been interested in playing D&D, but never had someone to try with.
Having played with RPG Vienna for 2 years and having DMed for about a year now, I feel a lot more comfortable and am hoping to make starting to play easier on new people who may want to join by running some D&D games specifically for new players.
WHO is the target audience of these sessions?
- This is directed at people who have never played D&D and whose experience in any TTRPGs is limited (say, 1-2 sessions a while back in another system) or non-existent.
- This is directed at people who don’t know how to create their characters. We are not giving advice on how to build optimal characters, and this is not a session to discuss ideal builds and the benefits of minmaxing versus balancing. We are just giving you the tools to start building your own characters, so you have a character you’ll enjoy playing and you will be able to level up your character from there, and create new ones.
- If you have played before and have created a character before, you are welcome to still join if you want to - but in that case, the adventure and the character building session may seem underwhelming to you.
HOW will these sessions work?
- We will potentially start earlier than usual VALUE games, around 6.30, depending on the possibility to do that at a location
- spend about an hour creating level 1 characters (Players Handbook 2014 based) on paper together
- then start playing an easy introductory one-shot adventure, finishing around 10.45
- after the adventure, we will level up to level 2 together.
Of course you can ask any questions you may have at any time. I am by no means an expert on things, just someone who wants to help get you started.
We will play if we get at least 2 people, and we will have no more than new 4 players.
If you are interested in this, just post below. Also make sure your notifications settings at least for this one post are turned on so you can get updates.
What you will need for these sessions:
- A pencil and eraser or erasable pen
- Dice, if you have them (you can borrow, no need to spend money)
- Any snacks you might want (you can get water at the location, and there is a small selection of drinks you can buy, but it’s not mandatory).
- A flexible schedule. We will aim to be done with the game by 10.45pm, +/- 30 minutes. If you want to stay for the level up, it will take another 15-30 minutes.
- Note that one location has a 4 EUR entrance fee to be paid in cash into the box on the kitchen counter
WHEN is this happening?
Our session for May is Full. Feel free to post your interest below anyway and we will ping you when we have a date for June/July.
WHERE is this happening?
I can bounce around between Wowkeepers and Requisite. Seeing as Wowkeepers is free for first-timers, that may be the way to go. Those two locations are our usual Friday Night locations.
HOW do I join?
I will announce dates in this thread, as well as the corresponding VALUE thread. If you are interested in joining, you can also just post in here and we can see if we can make something happen. Just post here if you’re interested and make sure to have notifications turned on at least for this thread so you can find out if something is changing or happening.
This is an offer, not a requirement, for new players. You can absolutely and are 100% welcome to show up to any game with VALUE in the title and play a game. We are used to having new players around regularly.
