Those symbols correspond to the type of dice you get to roll.
There are three good (you get from your character) and three bad flavors (the GM can impose on you) of dice. One is for success/failure, one’s for complications/opportunities and the other something else… best explained with an example during the game though, i think.
◆ (d8) represents your “Ability” (attribute, base stat, …)
★ (d12) represents your “Proficiency” (training, skill, …)
and they are rolled instead of one or several ◆
■ (d6) represents a “Boost” (advantage, helpful circumstances, …)
such as: you are aiming; … you are flanking the enemy; … etc.
“Bad Dice”:
◆ (d8) represents the “Difficulty” (e.g. Easy, or Very Difficult)
★ (d12) represents a “Challenge” (e.g. trying the same thing against your nemesis)
and they are rolled instead of one or several ◆
■ (d6) represents a “Setback” (disadvantage, unlucky circumstances, …)
such as: you are standing on uneasy terrain; … you are surprised; … etc.
“Force Die”:
✰ (d12), represents the “Force”
it is used, when a force sensitive character, wants to use Force Powers
additionally at the beginning of every game session it is used to generate “Destiny Points”.
Those can be used by the players (light side) as well as the gamemaster (dark side) to add storyelements, as well as boosts and setbacks to tests of PCs as well as NPCs.
Now I regret that we didn’t have a Deathstick Jones - a drug-addled Samuel L. Jackson would have been an invaluable addition to this already-awesome party!
@Beginner’s box owners
Could anyone borrow me the included adventure ‘Escape from Mos Shuuta’? I’d like to run the sequel ‘Long arm of the Hutt’ for some old buddies on a long RPG weekend and would like to know if the prequel from the beginner’s box is worth running as well. I’ll photocopy the module and hand it back to you unharmed
