Drinks, conversation, and ... Space Station

The Dogs shall ride. It is known!
Although next Thursday specificaly has recently become a bit difficult for me - could you guys make it on Wednesday as well perhaps? (I may still be able to solve the difficulty, though. Just checking for possible alternate dates just in case i wont be able to postpone my other obligation for thursday…)

that’s okay, if a bit sad of course. But I’m aware its themes are not for everyone, and if you have whatsoever reservations or strange feelings about it, probably better to bow out than to make yourself play it in spite of them.

The game’s religious angle in particular may be problematic for some. If you can’t see yourself portraying an honestly religious Paladin doing morally questionable things in the name of the Actually True One True Faith, and in a rather historically charged setting at that, no one can blame one for that.

That said, Simon’s pass means there are a maximum of 2 free spots for the game now. Alrik and Tom will both play I take it, and I don’t want to go over four players for this one. Three players is as fine an option as 4 though, so that means that 1 or 2 people can still join up at this point.

It is always possible to join in later, though (such as Tam has announced she plans to do after her hiatus). I may find myself lifting the 4-players-max restriction as I get the first few sessions under my belt.

So, for now, either -H- or Darthbinks joining up would get us to playable size, and if both want to join, thats also perfectly possible!

color me intrigued. care to elaborate on your current thoughts about what the genre has to offer?
Just asking since I for one could not find much interest in the “superhero” genre in quite some time now. I think somehow superpowers themselves kinda ruin the human aspect of a story (or game) for me. Although I’m fine with wizards and the like, funnily enough… Anyways, I prefer stuff like the Watchmen and Batman (heroes without powers) much more than any of the endless incarnations of X-Men or JLA or Spidey or Supes or what have you :stuck_out_tongue:
In my opinion, Dr.Manhattan (from the Watchmen) is probably the only convincingly written superhero with actual superpowers ever. And for those who know how his story goes, go figure…

I am not sure about wednesday. I probably won’t know until wednesday morning/noon

Wednesday is my weekly DnD 4e night. I could try to ask the to play on Thursday. But I’d appreciate if we found another solution. Tuesday or Monday?

Mo and tue don’t work for me, but you can just play without me and I jump in the next time.

in that case, Friday seems to be the only solution (or Thursday after all). Anybody available on Friday? Spielbar may be more populated and noisier on weekends, though…

I’ll try and move my Thursday problems to another day. Can let you know tommorrow if it worked out. If not, Simply skipping this week and meeting perhaps next Thursday seems like the best solution, i guess?

If the regular game isn’t happening, I’d be up for running a substitute one-shot of some kind on Tuesday. Any takers?

Tuesday works for me, so yeah why not

No Dogs in the Vineyard this week… me sad.

But alright, let’s meet tomorrow! Should we bring dice, cards, domino stones or monopoly event cards?

I can not make it this tuesday
(monday & wednesday are “booked” as well)

thursday would work for me though

have fun tomorrow : )

Yeah. Too bad:/

Same here.

Have fun guys!

All of the above, of course.

So just the ultra-hard-core indie guys? Looks like I might have to pull out Mist-robed Gate or something like that. Hmm…

damn … and I have no time

damn … and I have no time
Well, we could always postpone this. Hmm, I see that Shock is on both Auburney’s and Alrik’s want to play list.

Or I could just go completely old school on you guys and spend the evening making you look things up on Rolemaster tables…

As tempting as option 2 sounds, I’d really love to play Shock!

We shouldn’t  instead, we should just repeat it at some point in the future when Darth also has time

Hm, Shock… I was almost about to suggest that myself ^^
I hear Mist-Robed Gate plays better with many players, not just two or three… but Shock I feel may be perfect for a group of three…

I got a .pdf of it on my PC, should I print a copy and bring it along? It’s “Shock: Human Contact”, in case there are several versions… which I think is the case but I’m not sure about it

Hah! Never actually played it myself (heard lots about its legendariness though, of course!)
So if you’d pull that out, I’d give it a shot at least!

What an awesome session yesterday! Cosmic Patrol saved the day once again!

Battled against service robots gone militant, struggled with low gravity and a sulphuric sludge chasm, went out of air, hijacked a pirate ship and ousted a small fleet of communist reptile-men pirates, and returned to Helia base - all within 4 hours of play!

And still, the mystery of the research station on Asteroid A17-362 remains yet unsolved…

Will the brave captain, his brawny amazon companion and their Venusian expert scientist return for more adventures in the future? Perhaps even bringing along a few more of their pulpy and heroic companions for the ride? And if so, what genre will they be re-issued in this time?!

sounds awesome

So…are we going to play dogs in the vineyard this week?

thought you’d never ask!

answer in two parts:

the date: Thursday this week I can do. Wednesday won’t be possible though.

the game: It might just be Alrik and you as players (unless Darth or -H- get motivated and join up), but that would not be a problem. I get a feeling it might be easier to gather more players for this game if we reskinned it a bit, as several people have already made known their reservations based on the mormon context…

currently on the table for a re-skinning: either Star Wars (Jedi on the Vine-planet), or Fantasy (Paladins in the Village-yard). Let me know your preferences (including whether any of you’d prefer the original setting over any of those), and I’ll figure something out.

Alternatively, I could run a one-shot (with potential for expanding it later perhaps) of Apocalypse World for you guys. This would works with any number of players.

“Nobody remembers how or why. Maybe nobody
ever knew. The oldest living survivors have
childhood memories of it: cities burning, society
in chaos then collapse, families set to panicked
flight, the weird nights when the smoldering sky
made midnight into a blood-colored half-day.
Now the world is not what it was. Look around
you: evidently, certainly, not what it was.
But also close your eyes, open your brain:
something is wrong. At the limits of perception,
something howling, everpresent, full of hate and
terror. From this, the world’s psychic maelstrom,
we none of us have shelter.”

Apoc World is a bit like Lady Blackbird in that it relies on the players to fill in some of the finer details of the gameworld (i.e. what kind of catastrophe destroyed the world is not decided by the GM, but found out together during play - maybe… also, some of the current threats and circumstances can be influenced (i.e. invented) by the players, and so on)

There is also a heroic high fantasy variant of it, called Dungeon World, but I haven’t read that yet but may still do so if that is what ye players demand
thought you’d never ask!
the date: Thursday this week I can do. Wednesday won’t be possible though.
thursday would be fine : )
