ダブルクロス [Double Cross]

DOUBLE CROSS

Style: Superheroes / Horror

Theme: The theme of Double Cross is the solitude and distress of superhumans trying to maintain their own happiness.

Synopsis: It is our world in a not so distant future … but unbeknown to the world population, there is a strange virus infection spreading through our world. This virus is called “Renegade”. This infection grants strange superpowers to its hosts, called “Overeds”. Although these infected “Overeds” will soon loose their minds and will transform into impulsive supermonsters, called “Germs”, who themselves will start to infect even more humans with the virus.

Characters: The player characters are all “Overeds”, aka are infected by the “Renegade” virus, and show symptoms of strange superpowers, but they have not transformed into “Germs” … yet. They are members of a worldwide secret organisation, “UGN (Universal Guardian Network)”, that helps them somewhat to keep their infection in check, but they have to do missions for said organisation - most of the time killing “Germs”.
As one of these Overeds, you will have great power, power that comes at an equally great price. As you play, you will have to decide what is worth risking your sanity for, and where you will draw the line.

System: Double Cross [DX]

Syndromes - The Classes of Double Cross

Abilities are grouped into twelve “classes” known as Syndromes. Each Syndrome has its own ability theme, and while they each have specialties, any combat role can be accomplished using any Syndrome. Characters have anywhere between one to three (Purebreed, Crossbreed, or Tribreed) Syndromes.

The game’s thirteen Syndromes are as follows:[ul]

Angel Halo
[li]Powers of controlling light, including beams of light/lasers, light manipulation and sensory enhancement, with a slight emphasis on long-ranged attacks using guns or superpowers. [/ul]
Balor[ul]

The Syndrome that controls time and gravity. Weaken enemies by giving them bad statuses and penalties towards their rolls. Create an object called an Eye of Darkness, which you use to control or manipulate gravity, or simply suck things/people into black hole-like voids.
(from the Celt god)[/li][/ul]
Black Dog[ul]

[li]Black Dog has the power of lightning and electricity at its disposal. Use this power to attack or to power machinery that has been grafted onto your character.
(from the English legend of vicious black dogs that ride storms, fog and lightning)[/li][/ul]

Bram Stoker[ul]

[li]The Syndrome of blood. Blood-related effects; healing, or things like “Cut yourself, then the blood turns into a solid sword you can use to attack foes”. Bram Stoker Overeds can sacrifice their own HP to directly attack enemies, or create Servant characters to do the fighting for them.[/li][/ul]

Chimaera[ul]

[li]Overeds with this Syndrome gain the vitality of a primal beast. Melee attacks and survival are this Syndrome’s specialty. Change your body into beast-like forms: Wings, claws, scales, senses etc.[/li][/ul]

Exile[ul]

[li]Exile Overeds can twist and shape their bodies like clay, allowing them to attack and dodge in ways that are normally impossible. This Syndrome has both offensive and defensive options at its disposal. Manipulate your body through elongation, twisting, etc; can turn limbs, hair, etc into sharpened weapons.
(from the Japanese legend of Hiruko, the misshapen first son of the first gods, who was cast out)[/li][/ul]

Hanuman[ul]

[li]Hanuman is all about speed and sound waves. Hanuman has more movement options, and abilities that enhance the actions of other characters.
(from the Indian god)[/li][/ul]

Morpheus[ul]

[li]Morpheus Overeds are able to transform an object into anything they desire, regardless of what the object’s original mass was. This Syndrome has several Item creation powers. Transforming one thing into another; creating guns from umbrellas, etc. Also, limited psychometry.
(from the Greek god)[/li][/ul]

Neumann[ul]

[li]Those that develop this Syndrome gain great intelligence and a mind capable of processing immense amounts of information quickly. In battle, Neumann powers increase the chance for a roll to critical, and help improve the rolls of other characters. Think River from Firefly (can think faster, shoot accurately, etc)
(from John von Neumann, the brilliant mathematician)[/li][/ul]

Ouroboros[ul]

[li]With this Syndrome Overeds have the ability to manipulate Renegade strains (no - that is not very healthy for you). Ouroboros has the ability to copy the Powers of other Syndromes. By acquiring certain Ouroboros Powers, characters can learn Powers from other Syndromes, although they must pay a higher usage cost (read: increased Encroachment rate). This Syndrome of the Renegade virus was only discovered recently.
(from the ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon eating its own tail)[/li][/ul]

Orcus[ul]

[li]Orcus grants a person a Domain, a large area where a person can command the laws of physics and nature itself. Orcus can make abilities target several characters at once. They draw a circle on the ground, and can control anything that happens in that circle: Control the earth, make attacks or increase defense, summon creatures, etc.
(from the Roman god of the underworld)[/li][/ul]

Salamandra[ul]

[li]This Syndrome commands both fire and ice, using it for attacks and defense. Many Salamandra abilities concentrate on dealing direct damage to the enemy.
(from the mythological fire-breathing lizard)[/li][/ul]

Solaris[ul]

[li]Solaris Overeds are able to create various chemicals within their bodies and use them to heal allies or harm enemies. Control pheromones, use them to heal people or cause them to see illusions/phantasms. Solaris tends to play a more supportive role, as a majority of its abilities revolve around giving allies bonuses or giving enemies penalties and bad statuses.
(from the Stanislaw Lem novel “Solaris”)[/li][/ul][/*:m][/list:u]

Encroachment Rate

The Encroachment Rate is a measure of how much of the Renegade’s power a character has access to. With a high rate, characters earn numerous bonuses and increased firepower. However, if at the end of the session a character’s rate is above 100%, that character turns into a “Germ” and is lost forever.

Lois / Titus System

The game contains a relationship mechanic in which PCs have special individuals called Lois and Titus, which represent their human relationships. Loises (named after Superman’s love interest Lois Lane) represent important people whom the heroes protect. Tituses are named after William Shakespeare’s tragedy Titus Andronicus and represent defunct relationships, or Lex Luthor style antagonistic relationships. Loises maintain the characters’ sanity and prevents them from falling to madness, while Tituses can be used as temporary bonuses at the cost of losing the relationship entirely. A Lois can become a Titus in play through roleplaying or character decision.

Game System

Double Cross runs on a D10 system. Players roll a number of ten-sided dice, and select the one die with the highest number as their score. All modifiers will be calculated based on that die.

Criticals

[ul]
D10s do “explode” on a “10” (like in Legend of the Five Rings [L5R], or NEW FIRE). This means:
If a die shows up as a “10”, you will be able to roll again and add that number to the total. If the second roll is also a “10”, it will “explode” again, etc.

e.g. Say you roll 4 dice:
10, 10, 5, 2[/ul]
both “10s” explode -> roll again
[ul]
10, 4[/ul]
“10” explodes -> roll again
[ul]
6[/ul]
= so your total would be 26 (10+10+6)[/list:u]

Lower Critical Value

[ul]
Certain Powers and your Tituses can lower the number you have to roll, which makes a die “explode”. The Critical still adds +10 per “explosion” to his total.

e.g. 8s or 9s explode as well and say you roll 3 dice:
9, 8, 3[/ul]
both “9” and “8” explode -> roll again
[ul]
7, 4[/ul]
= so your total would be 17 (10+7)[/list:u]

Fumbles

[ul]
A Fumble occurs when every dice that was rolled comes up as “1”. When this happens, the check automatically fails.[/ul]

Disclaimer #2: The setting of the one-shot will be a japanese high school and the player characters will be either newly infected students or “Overed” UGN operatives working undercover.

If someone wants to create her own character, pm me

(p.s.: probably will dm Double Cross in ~3 weeks or so)
