Battle Sheet — a better way to export sheets from DnD Beyond

Hi, I wanted to show you a tool I discovered a few months ago made by a guy called “staussy”, who had mentioned it on Reddit. I’ve spent the last months helping him by checking bugs, builds and giving feedback.

I use DnD Beyond, but on the table I like using a physical sheet … and Beyond’s export function is tolerable, but not great: Unless you wanna print 4-6 sheets for most of your features and tracking thereof you’re still forced to use the app.

Ofc there’s custom sheet makers aplenty, but they all require you to manually enter every single thing.

Then I found

BATTLE SHEET

It’s a tool that requires zero installation for public characters and only a bookmarklet for private ones and reads the data of your Beyond character and arranges it on a sheet automatically or offers you to customize it extensively via a powerful interactive layout builder.

It tries to categorize all the things you can do during a turn (attacks, spells, items, features) into Action/Bonus action/Reaction/Passives so you can see at one glance what you can do.

It gives you checkboxes for everything that has limited use and shows its recharge time (if it has one) above. This includes spells, abilities, items, class resources or Hit Point Dice.

If an item (like the Tentacle Rod or Staff of the Adder) let’s you do special melee attacks with it, it shows in the attack column, unlike in DnD Beyond.

If a Spell is modified by a feature (like Repelling Blast by Agonizing Blast or Mage Hand by an Arcane Trickster), it will usually show the modification text as an inlay next to the text.

And it usually manages to fit all that into one page or two.

On top of that, the custom layout builder let’s you edit almost anything from changing text size, hiding certain lines or even whole categories, editing descriptions, changing colors for individual boxes or skills/abilities, adding custom boxes and lines in addition to giving you many toggles for appearance.

As the tool uses raw data and pattern recognition it should work for both first party and third party content and any edition, but most of the testing has been focused on 5.5 official content. If you notice any bugs please report them here or in the discord that’s linked on the website.

I’ve been personally using extensively and I swear by it

There’s been a few feature updates focusing on how spells are displayed:

The special spellslot from the Potent Dragonmark feat now displays alongside your other spellslots. Beyond doesn’t really support that.

There’s now upcasting info for more types of spells, including healing spells and spells allowing more targets on upcast.

Spells from items now show at the bottom as the spell list in order to not mix them up with spells you can (also) cast with spell slots. Spells from feats stay grouped with your normal spells as those almost always allow you to cast them with spell slots as well.

Spells now show at the lowest level you can cast them at. This doesn’t change anything for most, but if you’re a Warlock with only Lvl 5 pact slots, spells like Cloud of Daggers will now show upcast to level 5.

Exceptions are spells you get a free cast for, as the free cast is always at a specific level (usually the level of the spell) and if you have lower level spell slots available from multiclassing.

Edit:

And this just came in

Spells now show how many targets they affect or how many rays/missiles they shoot.

The sheet was already displaying and calculating the Stat Blocks of summons/companions you got from Subclass features (like Vestiges or Steel Defenders) — now it also does that for summons from spells that have defined stat blocks like Summon Dragon, Summon Undead, Find Steed.

For Find Familiar it only shows the “special” familiars you get via Pact of the Chain or the Necromancer Wizard’s class feature.

For Wild Shapes it uses Beast Stat Blocks you have added to your “Extras” section on Beyond, and also fetches any other regular extra you’ve added to that.

It also automatically resolves all formulas referencing your own stats these stay blocks have and adds boni like the extra HP from the “Familiar Friend” feat.

These Stat Blocks naturally take up quite some space so they’re better suited for printing them a second page or the backside of your sheet.

tried/tested it last Friday

worked really well :+1:

“Summons” from items now also show on the sheet.

You can now add custom spells, attack rolls or even features to the sheet that follow the design of the regular ones on the sheet and populate whatever card you want.
