Any interest in Dragonbond/Valerna?

Hi all!

I’ve been looking into Dragonbond, a property made by a company called Draco Studios. They recently released a 5E supplement based on their own setting, the very high-fantasy, dragon-centric world of Valerna. It’s a cool, crazy world with very interesting lore and flavor for its magic, and I was thinking of building out a short adventure in it  .

I created a little player primer going very briefly over the new class and subclass options. Please take a look and see if any of these options seem interesting to you, or if you’d like to learn more!

Sounds interesting. I would be willing to try it out Maybe college of Nightmares? Or maybe Vaala Adept?

Hey! This looks super interesting  I’d be glad to go do some dragon spotting! Entropy, Covenant, Change, and all the dream-related ones are particularly interesting to me

For those who’ve had a bite and want more , here are the actual sections of the book that go over Character Options:

Ancestries of Valerna.

Classes and Subclasses of Valerna.

Dragons always sound great   I would totally be interested, but depends on the schedule. I’d probably go some simple class.

Seems like an interesting idea - perhaps changing the fabric of reality as a Makaab Weaver?

If you were to go Vaala Adept, which aspect would you specialize in?

Dream - The aspect of raw ideas, of unlimited potential and unbound imagination. Through Dream, something quite literally can come out of nothing.

Source - The aspect of raw materials, of elements and nature, and also of life and death. Through Source, life evolves and seasons pass.

Will - The aspect of raw power, of plans and politics, by which individuals change the world through their drives and decisive actions.

Note that the Makaab weaver is not about manipulating reality, but rather the environment and the natural world. It’s essentially a wizard-druid.

Probably Source Doctrine with a Obakkar

or

Dragon Herald (Fulgen Brood) with a Maghyr? But I feel like the downsides might be party disruptive?

Everyone who’s interested, please put your name/handle with your class/subclass preferences into this excel sheet

I think playing a Maghyr should be fine - the weaknesses seem like a fun risk  .

But also, the others seem to be leaning towards a source-dominant party, which means the adventure might take place in a part of the world that don’t really have Maghyri around haha.

  • Ancestry:
    • Maghyr (edit: if that is too edgy/disruptive I would take something else)
  • Class (Subclass):
    • 1st pick: Wizard (School of Entropy)
    • 2nd pick: Sorcerer (Blood Sorcery)
    • 3rd pick: Valaa Adept (Will Doctrine)

whatevery fits your story best

Hi all, I hope everyone’s had a good weekend :). Just wanted to let everyone know that this I still want this to happen, and I’m still working to put an adventure together.

@Polaris @Kirgul - If you’re still interested in this, could you put your character preferences in this spreadsheet, whenever you have a sec? Just so that I can make sure we make a party and story that makes sense  .

hi, sure! Sorry, I oversaw the link… From looking at the preferences of the others, I’d choose a figter, to balance all the magic ppl out  Is it true, that Monk is a weak class? Saw some comments on that in dnd discussions… I prefer Rogue, but for fighting dragons they might not be an optimal class ' Do the players ride or bond with dragons? Or is it purely about dragon hunting?

@Kirgul Haha you may be interacting with dragons, but you certainly won’t be fighting them, or even bonding with them, because this will be a lower-level adventure. Fighting/bonding with dragons would happen if I ever ran a higher-level campaign in this world, so not quite yet.

As far as the Monk is concerned, yes it is considered a weaker class, but there are resources online made by smart people who’ve tried to improve the Monk class, and I would be happy to use one of those  . Don’t worry too much about the mechanical side of things, we can tweak things here and there as we go along.

Were you thinking of the Covenant Monk? That would actually work well with the adventure I’ve thought up so far.

Yup, the Covenant. I’m new to dnd in general, so I’m happy to try new things as long as I don’t slow/ruin the game for others
