Thanks to @Col_Mustard_Ret - Zap, @ofey - Aldo, @clove - Hendryk, @SND - Robin Glenn and @MrScarlet - Steornax for joining the Spelljammer Academy and completing Starlight Arcana Act I (A Gathering of Stars).
Assigned the yet-unamed Squidship with Siseth the Spelljammer, the crew picked up Alya, Yarfer and Nex and plot a course to return to the planet Coliar and the Church of Stars to collect the promised calibration ritual for the Astralabe. A welcome quiet voyage ends in an eerily quiet arrival at floating island, with no townsfolk visible. Descending on ropes they find signs that the town has been searched and partially looted by someone before catching up to Alya, Yarfer and Nex besieged by corrupted townsfolk on the steps of the church. Seeking to disable the townsfolk in a non-lethal manner out heroes trip and stun them into submission then venture into the church once more.
There they find five surviving, unafflicted villagers and Sajal the priest of stars, their contact. They find the churches stained glass windows tells the story of the ebb and flow of the void tides, scenes that match what they have seen here in the town. They venture into the catacombs at Sajal and Alyas urging, sure they were not alone and find, in the great ritual room, among the library tombs, first the calibration ritual and then a copy of the Book of Stars. As they prepare to leave they encounter another group leaving another part of the catacomb - a group of Golden Skull pirates, laden with loot. Battle is joined, a brutal corridor fight where Aldo’s close quarters Thunderwave knocks out most of the fight from the opposition before the last, Suggested by Hendryk, takes his loot and leaves.
With Sajal, the last townsfolk and their hard won information they clamber to the roof and call in Siseth and the Squidship while the rest of the corrupted townsfolk howl around the walls of the church. A sharp-eyed Steornax spots another ship flying away, no doubt the Golden Skulls leaving.
A half days voyage downwards from the system plane gives enough distance to cast the calibration ritual on the Astralabe which reveals wisps of corruption remaining at Coliar and Toril while dark splotches mar the representations of Anadia and Karpri. With this precious information our heroes returned to the Academy to report in and plot the next move to turn back what appears to be a rising void-tide.
All crew get a level, 10 days downtime, 10gp in wages, 80gp from the other loot sacks captured from the Golden Skulls. In addition, anyone may take a Ring of Mind Shielding recovered from the catacombs. As a new recruit to the Academy, Hendryk can also take 50gp worth of mundane equipment issued from the Spelljammer Academy quartermaster.
So does this mean… there were witnesses?
Hi everyone,
Aldo & Hendryk (@Clove) both had an awesome time and are looking forward to the next adventure (preferably w/o any witnesses)
Wishing you all a great weekend and @xaosseed, thank you for creating such a great experience!
No credible ones, at least.
@Martin @jboimler @Vishous @Anabel @driow123
Thank you for playing at my table!
Together, you created a truly unique city filled with so many laws that it is lawless, a chaotically free populace protected by a strict, unyielding military, and a place where Blexa fulfills every citizen’s wish upon the simple speaking of words. A place where children are taught to misbehave and go running off into storms, where beautiful communal parks and gardens contrast against the countless gemstones and minerals pulled from the mountain, beautiful artwork is produced by the score, and where thousands of unseen servants go about their business making lives easier.
Such as city was worth preserving in the face of certain, though still not understood, doom. In the split second between the flash of the lightning that lit the sky from horizon to horizon, and the death of everything you held dear, the city found itself transported to a land of deep jungles, strange, large beasts which flew the sky, and a burning red sun centered above landmasses floating without assistance thousands of feet beyond reach.
What brought the doom that befell the city? What power transported it to its current location? And what happened to everyone in the nation outside of it? We will find out next time!
You all gain: 480 gp in metal or gems (your choice)
