Really, really, really sorry for the short notice, but my dog had a procedure earlier today at the vet and there were some complications so I need to stay with her tonight & have to cancel.
I had everything super prepped and was very much looking foward to the session, so I will surely run what I planned to next Friday instead. Sorry again!
I can take up to six players at my table (don’t come if you do not like silly puns), we’re playing T2; in a pinch I could take a 7th if that is fine with the group.
I can run a PF2e one shot or any of the other stuff I’ve mentioned earlier. Masks, Black Hack, etc.
Also what time does Requisite open? I got here early in case I needed to make a character but it seems closed. Might try and find food in the mean time haha
Thanks to @Nepu - Thomas Wetsack, @SND - Robin Glenn, @shocker - Kinelli, @MrScarlet - Steornax Luth, @pdpark - Honor Evenwood plus Ugdul for joining the Spelljammer Academy and playing through Starlight Arcana: A Gathering of Stars.
Interrupting induction into Spelljammer Academy, our heroes were tasked with finding Alya, said to have knowledge of planar things to provide information about the ‘skull coin’ recovered from Nightstone. Assigned the Whelkship and after firing the lizardman spelljammer they were first assigned, they set out with Cheltat, first to Nightstone and then on inland to the edge of the Dales and the Dancing Hedgehog Inn.
Inquiries with the barkeep confirmed Alya as a local and after waiting a bit she arrived, barely getting in the door before some ruffians kicked off a drawn-steel barfight. Our heroes defend the lady and have a stiff fight with the surprisingly tough captain of the dwarf ruffians. After vanquishing them and quizzing Alya about the ‘skull coin’, she invites them back to her home and library to research.
Arriving, they find the place ransacked and the villains still within. This group of team-working pirate types provides another tricky fight before they two are put to the sword and a last captured one interrogated.
Piecing together what the thieves had snatched or confessed to with what Alya remembers they realise these Golden Skull pirates were after records of destructive events, firey disasters. Alya revealed she also had an Astralabe, pass down to her, that could help find things out on the astralfares but it needed repairs.
With night falling our heroes decide to pack up, taking Alya, the captive Golden Skull and the Astralabe back to Spelljammer Academy.
Your rewards:
1 Level up
10 Downtime days
50 GP each worth of equipment drawn from the Spelljammer Academy Quartermaster as you finally get to your induction plus ad additional 15gp each worth of gear and loose coins from the vanquished thugs and thieves.
Thanks for playing at my table and completing the quest for Sir Pent! The Bookwyrm is dead, but the dungeon has collapsed. Before Sir Pent and his crew can unearth the arcana from the old library, they must excavate it once more…
You gain the promised 480 Septims GP, as well one of the following items:
The Wand of Wander has wandered off and unless someone has found it, it is wandering to this day. And wondering what is purpose is.
In addition, everyone gains a potion of hydration; and everyone’s favourite pun has burned itself into their brain and into their skin, acting as a Spellwrought Tattoo of Tasha’s Hideous Laughter.
Also, as a homebrew story award, you can keep your Wands of Spell Spelling, with the following effect:
Wand of Spell Spelling
This perfectly straight, colorful wand has a dark, pointy end and a pink, rubbery one. It has five charges.
When you cast a spell, you can expend one charge to change one letter of its name, potentially altering the spell’s effect.
After you have expended one charge, you need to spend 1 minute sharpening the wand’s pointy end with a small knife before you can use the wand again.
When you expend the last charge, the wand’s remains crumble into colorful dust.
Hey folks! That’s me leaving Vienna in the morning. Thank you so much for having me! It was great to see the VALUE folks and get a vignette of what the community is like in Vienna.
I really struggled with the game I was in despite my love for puns because it was the exact opposite style of game that I prefer playing, and I didn’t think I was very compatible with it. But the other players were a delight to play with and made the whole thing fun regardless.
So thank you all! Hopefully will see you again next time I’m in Vienna. And I’ll definitely try and bring and run some of the indie fare I mentioned.
I am curious though, what is the usual style of game you prefer? You know, usually my games are serious, this oneshot specifically is an exception But one thing my games have in common is that they usually are (classic) dungeon crawls, or at least more on the combat side.
That’s kind of you to say! And what I mean by style isn’t to do with the proportion of combat or whether or not it’s a dungeon crawl. I enjoy dungeon crawls too. The specific aspect of the style of play that I prefer is one which is more collaborative between everyone at the table rather than just show and tell for the DM with players as an audience. And tbh I prefer that style both as a player and as a DM.
The other aspect to this is having a cooperative dynamic here rather than an adversarial one.
Especially in a situation like this, where a DM cancelled last-minute due to an emergency, that can happen, unfortunately. Nothing we can do about that. I love combat as a player, but got into VALUE sessions that were purely RP-focused without a single initiative roll. It happens, and we have to live with that
Yeah, especially when there’s a shortage of GMs, and a homogeneity in the games being run, it can be hard to find a mix of different styles and one that I’m more compatible with. But hopefully as more people step behind the screen and bring different play styles to the table, it’ll be easier for people of all play styles to find tables they get with.
